American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "perfectly prepared" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, following securing a podium spot for the fourth instance in her last five World Cup races. The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This marked her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result. Strong Return in the French Alps Competing at the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place. "I was slightly lacking the right line on the first jump," Vonn said. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm pleased with my skiing today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was too conservative." This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill race on Saturday. A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 because of ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in December 2024 after a partial knee replacement. With less than two months remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are highly promising. She already possesses an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is firmly on track to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games. "In Cortina, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed. Aiming for Further Glory Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning 20 years. She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table. This current World Cup circuit features a total of nine races scheduled before the season finals in Norway on 21 March 2026.
