A Mountain of Anime Updates Dropped During the Festive Season

The winter break provide a plethora of pursuits far superior than catching up on the headlines: unwrapping gifts, indulging in delicious food, and employing meditation skills to refrain from yelling at family members. It is wished you managed to enjoy all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items surfaced over the festive period, and should you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (In 2027)

Perhaps the biggest revelation, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter further production. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. Yet, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, nowadays, they are probably teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' support and goodwill, and now everyone is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been going on for some time, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio renowned for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the conclusion of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has yet to be revealed.
